Smart Home Tweaks for Chronic Pain Relief

As you might have guessed, I am passionate about venturing into the wild and enjoying nature. If you’ve read my other blog posts, you’ll know how much I cherish the adidas Terrex line of women’s walking boots and hiking shoes. They fit perfectly right from the start, like a sock, and have never caused me blisters. Truly my ideal pair of shoes.

I wanted my husband to experience the same comfort with a quality pair of walking shoes. Here’s why…

The Reason My Husband Needs New Walking Shoes

My husband has been stuck with the same old, cheap walking shoes for countless years. I make him keep them in our boot room because they have an unbearable odor. The shoes offer no support, the insoles are dislodged, and he slides them on and off like slippers without bothering to tie them. They may feel as comfortable as slippers, but they’re certainly not healthy for his feet, nor pleasant for my sense of smell!

If left to his own devices, he’d probably continue wearing them until they fell apart. However, a small incident during a dog walk made him reconsider his choice of footwear.

I noticed he frequently stopped to adjust his shoes. I found it irritating, as I wanted to maintain our walking pace. When I inquired, he admitted that small stones kept getting into his shoes. Reflexively, I pointed out that I didn’t face this issue because I wore supportive walking shoes with proper laces. That served as his moment of realization. It was a simple nuisance, yet unbearable, prompting him to decide on the spot that he needed a new pair. That’s when I recommended the adidas Terrex range to him.

Luckily, as an adidas blogger, I have access to a variety of their shoes. Having experienced the Terrex range myself—I’m on my second pair now—I knew it would be perfect for him. I presented him with several options, and here’s his choice…

Adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2 Hiking Shoe

My husband was attracted to the integrated sock-like cuff of the adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2. This feature resembles a high-rise boot, with a stretchy cuff that snugly hugs the upper ankle, reducing friction and enhancing support. Importantly, the snug fit acts like a gaiter, blocking out any small stones or debris—problem solved!

Terrex shoes are equipped with Continental™ rubber grip—the same brand that produces car tires—so you know they provide exceptional grip. They ensure stability in any condition, which is reassuring since my husband often walks our dog in the forest behind our home, facing steep, muddy hills and hidden roots.

What makes these shoes so comfortable? Besides the sock-like cuff, they feature BOOST midsole cushioning, adidas’s proprietary technology. This design offers 20% more energy return with each step, feeling like walking on plush, bouncy cushions. Thus, while my husband feels the comfort of slippers, his feet are supported effectively.

He opted for classic black (easy to match and keep clean!), though adidas refers to it as Core Black/Core Black/Grey Six. Additional color options for the adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2 include Pulse Olive/Linen Green/Impact Orange and Bliss Lilac/Beam Orange/Pulse Magenta.

What Does My Husband Think of His New Shoes?

Naturally, he’s thrilled with them! Perhaps he should have heeded my advice sooner. Like myself, he was immediately impressed with their comfort. Unlike past purchases of walking shoes or trail running trainers, there is no need to ‘break them in’ with the adidas Terrex—they’re comfortable from the first wear.

But let me share his thoughts…

“For years, I dealt with debris getting into my shoes during walks in the woods, constantly stopping to remove them. The idea of snug trainers with a sock-style lip really appealed to me. I chose them in black and bought a half size up, based on adidas’s recommendation. Though initially challenging to put on, as expected with this style—especially when new—they fit very well and felt comfortable immediately. On a 5-mile walk through woodlands, no twigs or grit came close to my feet. The comfort of these new shoes was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I’m really pleased with them and they’ll be my go-to for future walks.”

In conclusion, ensuring you have the right walking shoes that are comfortable, supportive, and suited to your needs is vital. And, it never hurts to listen to your wife’s suggestions!
