Introducing My Husband to Adidas Terrex Hikers

As you might already know, there’s nothing I enjoy more than venturing into the wild and immersing myself in nature. If you’ve checked out my other blog entries, you’ll be aware of my unwavering passion for the adidas Terrex range of women’s walking boots and hiking shoes. They are the epitome of comfort, fitting perfectly like a glove—or perhaps like a sock—from the very first wear, and they have never once caused me blisters. They truly are a dream come true.
This is why I wanted my husband to experience a good pair of walking shoes as well. Let me explain further…
Why My Husband Needs A New Pair Of Walking Shoes
For as long as I can recall, my husband has been using the same tired, inexpensive walking shoes. I insist he leaves them in our mudroom because, aside from everything else, they have an awful odor. They lack any support, the insole is all over the place, and he can’t be bothered to lace them, opting instead to slip them on and off like slippers. They might be as comfy as slippers, but they are terrible for his feet—and for my sense of smell!
If left to his own devices, I’m almost certain he’d hold onto them until they were riddled with holes and barely clinging together. However, during one of our dog walks, something happened that made him reconsider not just his life choices but specifically his choice of footwear.
I noticed him frequently stopping to adjust his shoes. It was frustrating for me because I wanted to maintain a decent pace during our walk. When I asked about it, he complained about constantly picking up stones in his shoes. I smugly pointed out that I didn’t face that issue because I wore proper walking shoes with good support and laces. That was a turning point for him. Such a small, yet irritating inconvenience made him realize that he needed new walking shoes. That’s when I recommended adidas Terrex.
Being an adidas blogger comes with its perks—I get to choose from the entire collection. Having personally experienced the Terrex range (I now own two pairs because I love them so much), I knew they were perfect for him. I sent over a few options, and this was his choice…
The standout feature for him while browsing the selection of men’s walking shoes was that the adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2 has an integrated sock-like cuff. This feature gives the shoe a high-rise boot appearance but, since the cuff is elastic, it hugs tightly to the upper ankle, reducing the risk of rubbing and supporting a broader range of movement. The snug fit acts as a gaiter, effectively keeping out small stones and grit. Success!
Terrex shoes include Continental™ rubber grip, the same brand that makes car tires. If it can keep a car on the road in various conditions, it’s certainly reliable for walking. This is excellent news because my husband often walks our dog in the forest behind our house, which involves lots of uphill and downhill trekking on muddy and slippery trails hiding tree roots, so grip is essential.
What makes these shoes so comfortable? Aside from the sock-like cuff, the shoes feature BOOST midsole cushioning. These are adidas’s trademarked magic inserts—tiny pellets compressed and molded to fit the shoe perfectly. This technology provides 20% more energy return with every step, meaning walking on them feels like stepping on soft, bouncy cushions. For my husband, it means he finally has a pair of shoes that are as comfortable as his slippers but also provide proper support for his feet.
He opted for the classic black pair (easier to match and maintain!), though adidas calls it Core Black/Core Black/Grey Six. The adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2 is also available in two other color combinations: Pulse Olive/Linen Green/Impact Orange and Bliss Lilac/Beam Orange/Pulse Magenta.
So What Does The Husband Actually Think Of His New Shoes?
Well, he loves them! If only he had taken my advice sooner! Like me, he was impressed by how comfortable they were right out of the box. In the past, whenever we bought walking shoes or trail trainers, there was always a breaking-in period. But with adidas Terrex, that’s unnecessary. They are comfortable from the start.
But enough from me, here’s what he has to say about them…
“For a long time, I’d struggle with bits getting caught in my shoes while walking in the woods, constantly having to stop and remove them. So a snug sock-style lip was very appealing! I chose a black pair and followed the adidas website advice by sizing up by half a size. They were a bit tricky to put on, which is expected with this style, especially when new, but the fit was excellent and they immediately felt very comfortable. On a 5-mile walk that included many woodland paths, nothing got near my feet, and the comfort level for a new pair of shoes was unlike anything I’d experienced before. I’m really happy with them and they’ll now be my go-to footwear for walks.”
The takeaway here is always to ensure you have a comfortable pair of walking shoes that perform well, support your feet properly, and, most importantly, listen to your wife’s suggestions!
